On February 28, 2022, David Firestein, president and CEO of the Bush China Foundation, joined a seminar to commemorate President Nixon’s visit to China and the 50th anniversary of the U.S.-China Joint Communiqué (also known as the Shanghai Communiqué) hosted by the Chinese Consulate General in New York and the America China Public Affairs Institute. In attendance were Consul General Huang Ping; Fred Teng, president of the America China Public Affairs Institute; Elaine Chao, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation; Ambassador Nicholas Platt, former president of the Asia Society; Ambassador Craig Allen, president of the US-China Business Council; Governor Bob Holden, president of the United States-Heartland China Association; Susan Thornton, former U.S. acting assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs; Jan Berris, vice president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations; Yawei Liu, director of the China Program at The Carter Center; and others.
