Zhe (Walter) Wang

Zhe (Walter) Wang is a researcher in the field of smart building and low carbon city. His research focuses on applying machine learning and advanced control techniques to enhance building energy efficiency, to reduce building carbon emission and to inform decision-making on building performances.

Before working at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Dr. Wang worked as a project scientist at Lawrence Berkeley on smart building control, as a postdoctoral scholar at University of California, Berkeley on data-driven personal comfort model and devices and as an energy consultant with the World Bank on the Urban Scale Building Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Project for China.

Dr. Wang received his PhD in civil engineering from Tsinghua University in 2017, an MPhil in energy technologies from the University of Cambridge in 2014. He was in the inaugural class of the Schwarzman Scholar and was invited to give a speech at the seventh round of the U.S.-China High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange in 2016, chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, as the only representative of Chinese young scholars.
