In this episode of McCuistion TV, Bush China Foundation President and CEO David Firestein discusses key issues in the U.S.-China relationship including economic ties, Chinese leadership and its comparison to Soviet Russia, demographic shifts and the Biden Administration’s position on China. In the interview, David says:
“Tariffs are a good example of how the politics of China in the United States drive bad policy. Good politics does not always equal good policy and I have been disappointed that some misguided and self-harming policies like the tariffs are still on the books. They shouldn’t be. What is clear is that American politicians are more afraid of being characterized as being soft-on-China than they are as being soft-on-inflation.”
The interview featured both Mr. Firestein and Dr. Susan Shirk, research professor and chair of the 21st Century China Center, as well as author of Overreach: How China Derailed Its Peaceful Rise.
