David Firestein, President and CEO of the Bush China Foundation, spoke to the University of Georgia OLLI on Thursday, April 22, 2021 on U.S.-China Relations.
Mr. Firestein first remarked on the current state of U.S.-China relations in the wake of President Biden’s first 100 days and the last four years of the Trump Administration. He reviewed areas of change and continuity in the U.S.-China relationship under President Biden and how the bilateral relationship might look over the next four years. Mr. Firestein covered areas including questions of reciprocity, the American view of China as its most formidable strategic competitor, and rhetorical approaches by both Administrations. He also spoke about the current administrative and legal framework around China and the necessity for cooperation between the world’s two largest economies.
Mr. Firestein answered audience questions concerning Taiwan, conflict in the South China Sea, international student exchange programs, free trade, and COVID-19 among other topics.Watch Here
